Wesley
Shaver of Brecksville, OH drives the #24 Grand National at Lorain Speedway.
He has been racing this class for 3 years, and also participated in the Spectator
Stock division and Go Karts. His sponsors include J&M Home Improvement,
Herman Carver Motor Sports, Good Olde Daze, The Automotive Racing Connection,
and Josh Way Fabrication.
He finished the 2004 limited season with:
* 160 total points
* 3 feature starts
* 5 heat starts
Wes says he has no particular racing role models, but he spent alot of time
with Rusty Lawson and began working on race cars when he was 12. He
learned alot from other drivers such as Rusty Lawson, Mike Lawson, Joe Pugh,
and Jeffrey Fade.
His favorite racing moment was when he began racing in the Grand National
Division in 2003. During his second week out, he started outside pole
beside Paul Shaffer. He says Paul is one of the hardest drivers to
get around, and they ran a good, clean race for 12 laps till the race was
called due to track conditions. He ended up getting 3rd, which is his
best feature finish in this division. He learned alot from that feature
and had a great race with Paul.
He also races at Sandusky Speedway, Mansfield Speedway, and plans on racing
at Painsville Speedway in 2005. At other tracks he has had several
top 3, 5, and 10 finishes. His racing goal is to just get out there
and do his best while having a fun and exciting season. When asked what keeps
him coming back to Lorain Speedway each week, he had this to say...
"Racing has been in my blood since I was
born and I have been coming to Lorain since I was 5 years old. My
grandfather founded ORA (Ohio/Oval Racing Association) and Lorain was part
of the sanctioning body. I have known many great drivers and people
from this speedway that have been a part of my life and my family. As
this marks my 15th year of attending this track on Saturday nights, I feel
at home and enjoy the atmosphere."
He also wants to send this message of thanks out to the following people:
"If it wasn't for my Mom and my Dad, I
would have never had the opportunity to race. They gave me the support
and the freedom to race at a young age and I can't thank them enough for
that. Also, the following people have made racing so special to me:
The Lawson Family, Herman Carver Motorsports
(Herman and Chuck Carver), Chris Maji, Joe Pugh, Joe and Dave Quinn, Cliff
Jones, Steve Hull, Bill Longstreet, Tim Boers, The Shaver Family, The Salupo
family, and all of the drivers, fans, and friends I have here at the
track."
Wes plans on racing here next season, and his chassis is currently uder construction
at Josh Way's Fabrication shop.
