From Lorain Speedway Racing. Net....

Just wanted to let everyone know that this site is back up and running. I had to "let it go" for a bit while I was laid off, and I haven't really taken any new pictures for the 2008 season, as my motor in my race car blew one the
second raceday of the season.

But I will soon be back at the track taking pics of all the cars, drivers, and fans. I also plan on adding a few new features as well. Thanks for being a part of this website and I'll see YOU AT THE RACES!!!

July 10th,2006

This is Heather Barnes, creator of this website, Yahoo group, and driver of the #77 Spectator Stock at Lorain Speedway..

I want to thank a few people for the times shared at Lorain Speedway...and please don't feel left out if your name isn't on here because I love and respect you all, and am thrilled to have had the opportunity to race against you all...

#4 Jack Saylor for helping me fulfill one of my top ten LIFETIME goals, that of driving a real race car...

#09 Tom Gregory...GOD...much thanks to you for all the help, both physical and verbal, my whole rear end off your parts car after Brett took me out in my first heat of the year in 2005, for having your son help you know who get the rear end actually fixed! For being the only person to slam my bumper pushing me, encouraging me, driving me hard to be faster, cheering me forward, and yes, passing me...lol...

And for being such an absolute wonderful person that you became the ONLY one I took my foot off the gas for, and loving when I FINALLY got over that...Thank you sooooo much for EVERYTHING and I wish you and your family the absolute BEST, and I've missed you all season long...

#188 Charlie Wells for being my first wreck...lol...(he had nowhere to go) and for being such a help and good person to be around that I can forgive him for wrecking or hitting me time and time again!

#97 Tom Boone for all those FUN, tight races we had together, "leaning" on you was the BEST and for being the first one to NOT drive me like a girl!

#59 Chris Carey for driving like a nut in front of me all the time which taught me QUICKLY to have fast reflexes out there!

#25 Roy Stanley for being the first person to totally intimidate me, I'll be honest and admit it...lol...which I am sure was on accident anyways!

#08  Ron Roy for being such a sandbagger, that out-qualifying him my first 3 weeks MADE my day each week...

#36 Ray Snock for being my poor victim of much verbal abuse after spinning me out or coming down on me week after week after week...

# 6 Matt Scarvelli for being such a hard one to pass each week, and giving me some great side by side racing, passing each other back and forth...

#188 Charlie Wells for being my first wreck...lol...(he had nowhere to go...lol ), and for being such a help and good person to be around that I can forgive him for wrecking or hitting me time and time again!

#5 Chad Gerken for apologizing EVERY single time you got into me, helping me out with getting my cage from Tate, and being a fun bud to have at the track, and I am soooo happy for you that you have your beautiful daughter...I wish you the BEST...

#169 Byran Girard...for putting my motor in my car for 2 packs of smokes and a double cheeseburger...you got alot of heart kid, and I missed you this season alot...stay out of trouble!

#11 Willie Patterson and #179 Steve Jones for adding LOTS of drama to my first season
and scaring the sh*t outta me in hot laps that QUICKLY taught me to pay attention!!

#109 Terry Sweene...for leaking stuff on the track every week in '04 that taught me how to not wreck myself while sliding on fluids!

#75 Troy Moore for making me feel like a REAL racer, having your paint on my car like the rest of the entire field!!!

#125 John Burderer for some seriously close and exciting racing this season...that one day with you was the most fun I've had all season...good luck in Sandusky and keep racin'!

#18 Marty Kelly, for being one hell of a fun guy to hang out with, and for helping with the car even though Fred annoyed the hell outta ya!!

#50/33 Ryan Smith...for being the last person I thought would drive me so clean, and giving me that handshake and telling me how hard it was to pass me...it was the best compliment from another driver, and it really made me feel great...

#32 Andy Spongebob Mccall...for having such a cool car that it added lots to my website! And your bro Pat too for the free hood!

#11 and #72 The Rothackers for helping with the windshield after Gooddog, for the space to paint, and finally getting my rollcage out of my hallway and into my car where it belonged!!

#39 Mike Chapman...MAN WHAT CAN I SAY...THANK YOU for everything...you are the race daddy I wish I would've had, you helped me and encouraged me soooooooooo much, you just jumped right in and helped diagnose what was wrong with my car, had great conversations while eating at Blue Sky, are fun as hell to race with, and introduced me (or condemned me...lol) to the world of KUMHOS!!!! And I will FOREVER thank you for that...I'm so glad you won your heat the last night you raced, and it was an HONOR finishing right behind you in that crazy 30 car 30 lap feature...I couldn't have done it without you and your Kumho you gave me.  You seriously had an impact on my life and I will ALWAYS thank you dear sir!!! :)

And last but not least, the #56 Sargent Bob Masters for being the one to finally pay attention to my car, doing all you could to make it go faster, be safe, and work properly...for helping Eugene with the windshield and roll cage, for not thinking the "Bob Masters Blue" on my car would be cheesy, for masking off the paint so it looks kick a*s, for offering 2 of your Kumhos when you only had 4, for getting me to the Tech and Tune this year, for fighting with the stupid tie rod ends like there was no tomorrow and finally giving me proper toe and camber, for inspiring me and motivating me to just get out there and have fun, for making race day so much stress-free FUN, for helping me get down to a 19.6, for being so happy for me and my first win, for offering me the opportunity to race your fast car any time I would want to, and for saying in a heartbeat that you would go away with me for just a weekend and give up the whole race season if you had to, which you would never have to do...hee hee...I love you babe and I can't wait to see where our racing adventures lead us!!

My life has changed drastically since I first went to Lorain Speedway as a fan, a Powderpuffer, then finally a real racer with all those boys, and a real win...it has been the best thing I have ever done, and no matter where I go, I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon...

I will miss you all...
Heather Barnes #77

P.S. Oh yeah, and my mom technically belongs here too because she did run the powder puff...
thanks for coming and  supporting me each and every week, the racing money sometimes, the goodie bags,
the photos, the babysitting, whether it was Fred or Justin...lol...and for not freaking out on opening nite when Gooddog's whole car
came through my window!! Glad you got to get out there and experience it for yourself...

MANAGEMENT SHUFFLE AT LORAIN SPEEDWAY

Amherst, OH.  (October 20, 2005) – Lorain Speedway announced today that Tim Stephens will be joining Lorain Speedway as the General Manager.  Stephens’ background includes a variety of sports marketing and management positions that involved sponsorship sales, marketing and management for local racing organizations including Liberty Racing and ThorSport Racing.  The Elyria resident was also a member of the management team which brought NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events to Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in 2004 and 2005.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to continue the work that's underway at Lorain Speedway," Stephens said.  "While I've worked primarily in NASCAR national series in recent years, my heart has always been in short track racing.  The Lorain Speedway situation provides a perfect opportunity for me to combine my short track racing passion with my national series experiences."

Tom Kurtz, currently Director of Marketing for Lorain Speedway, will be leaving the organization to pursue other career interests.  Kurtz commented, “This is a sport that requires passion- 100% dedication to growing local racing.  I don’t have the passion for the sport that I once had and 99% is not enough.  Frankly, the racers and fans deserve more than that; they are the most loyal and dedicated in all of sports.”  Kurtz continued, “I have been in racing pretty much since I graduated from Ohio University. I realized that I wanted to make a change back in April to pursue aspirations outside of racing, but I wanted to complete the 2005 season. I feel now is the right time to begin the transition and we intend to make it seamless.   I want to personally thank the fans, racers, and staff of Lorain Speedway for the great seasons.“
