Track History
The History of Lorain Speedway

Lorain Speedway has been operating since 1949 and has been known as Lorain Speedway, Lorain County Speedway, and simply "The County".

It began as an oval dirt track then finally received it's first paving in 1960.

There have been many famous racing names to come out of the track such as Benny Parsons, Tim Richmond, Michael Waltrip, Davey Allison, Bob James, and Butch Miller.

Bob James was a local driver who raced at Lorain Speedway in the following classesove the years : Roaring Roadsters, Coupes, Supermodifieds, Late Models, and ARCA New Car Events.  He passed away two years ago and his presence in racing is sadly missed.
